Press Releases for The Lands at Hillside Farms

Since graduating from college, I've been trying to keep my skills sharp by volunteering PR work. The Lands at Hillside Farms is a nonprofit organization in Shavertown, Pa. I wrote press releases on their educational programs they offer to the community.

Campaign Paper

My last semester at The Pennsylvania State University I created a campaign for a nonprofit organization, Penn State Cooperative Extension. I worked independently and with others to produce a one year campaign specifically for Huntingdon County, located in Pennsylvania. Research was conducted on the client, and focus groups and one-on-one interviews were held within Huntington County. With the information gathered from the research process, key groups were identified and objectives, goals, strategies, tactics, and a schedule were created. The organization began implementing the campaign into their public relations strategy the following summer.

Media Kit
During the fall semester of 2008, I created a mock media kit for Universal Music Group Nashville. This was a semester long project that I completed independently. I began the project by researching the client and creating a problem analysis, which included objectives, a plan, a budget, and more. Then, I created publicity materials such as a news release, fact sheet, TV broadcast release, a pitch letter, and a media advisory. Using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, I created a brochure and an advertisement.

Media Pitches
While interning at Dick Jones Communications, I pitched stories to the media every day of my internship. Depending on the story, I would pitch to either national or local journalists, sometimes even both. The national media included newspapers such as USA Today and The New York Times. I wrote approximately thirty pitches throughout the internship and managed to publicize six of the twenty clients in online media coverage.

Radio Commercials/Promotions
By interning at a radio broadcast company, Magnum Broadcasting, Inc., I was able to write promotional commercials and radio advertisements for clients. This was my favorite part of the internship because I was able to use my own creativity. Throughout the internship, I wrote about 15 commercials.
